NCFA Statement on Traceability

June 9, 2026 | Documents

NCFA is extremely disappointed in the changes the CFIA recently announced to their proposed traceability regulations, whereby they halted any additional requirements for Canada’s beef sector.

As an integral part of feedlot operations, traceability allows for rapid identification and response to food safety issues, disease outbreaks and emergency situations. The benefits of an effective traceability system include mitigating economic and production risks to Canada’s beef supply, improved response to reportable disease transmission, and improved ability to meet expectations of export markets.
Canada’s entire beef industry needs an all-encompassing traceability system strong enough to protect market access and confidence in Canadian beef.

While disappointed, NCFA remains committed to working with the industry Task Force to develop practical, effective solutions that support the needs of Canada’s beef sector.
